I completed my undergraduate degree in
Computer Science at Illinois Wesleyan University in April,
2004. I am now employed full-time as a Business Application Security Analyst for State Farm Insurance
Companies in Bloomington, Illinois.
As a Security Analyst, I work with my team members to
ensure that our corporate network and its data remain
secure and retains its integrity. We accomplish this
through researching vulnerabilities, mitigating risks,
implementing security controls, and evaluating new issues.
Since this particular industry is in a constant state of
change, there is never a dull moment in my job.
When I'm not working, I can almost certainly be found
doing one of about three things: hanging out with
friends, reading, or taking pictures. I'm lucky to still
be in Bloomington-Normal because many of my friends
from Illinois Wesleyan now work in the area. I'd pick
hanging out with friends over doing just about anything
else.
Reading is another hobby that I missed a lot during my
time as a student. True, one does read an enormous
amount of text while attending college, but the process
of reading and the accompanying feel is quite different
from the leisure reading that I do now. I'm not picky
about topics. I'll read just about anything as long as
it's well written. If you want to know what I'm
currently reading, check the box to the right of
this text.
I'm the Deputy Chief of Operations for the McLean Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Operations
Team. Our most visible role has always been the
coordination of severe weather response and storm spotting
for McLean County. Our agency also has primary involvement in communications,
incident command, ground search and rescue, and mass
casualty incidents. Our officers bring varied experiences to
the team including EMT and first-responder certifications as
well as IEMA PDS and IPEM designations. Our role continues to
expand as directed by the Illinois Emergency Management
Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Finally, photography has always been a hobby of mine.
All of my photography is shot using a Sony DSC-F828 digital
camera. I try to take a
variety of shots and they usually reflect my mood during
the time of shooting. As I finish a photo album, I post
it to my website in the Digital Photography Gallery. Check my links section for my
latest photo sets.
